The Audacious Cakery @ Everton Park

About 2 weeks ago, I was invited to The Audacious Cakery for a tasting session. As you can see from the pictures above, the cafe is a quaint one tucked away in one corner of Everton Park.

Let's move on to the cakes.

Tea is from TWG but a lot cheaper, so brownie points (pun intended) here.

Diabetic list includes:

Lemon Meringue Tart
Chocolate Souffle Tart
Zacharie (cheesecake with passionfruit center)
Strawberry Shortcake
Exotique (coconut cream, papaya and mango)
Chocolate Obsession (dark chocolate)
Salted Caramel Macaron
Lemon Macaron
Matcha cupcake
Irish Cream Cupcake
Lemon Raspberry Cupcake

If you still didn't notice my sombre tone by now, you ought to be drowned in lemon meringue.

The cakes looked way better than they tasted, and honestly the only two I liked from the list are the strawberry shortcake and the chocolate obsession. Quite frankly you can get just as good strawberry shortcake from I don't know, Four Leaves? I don't think I need to mention the gulf in prices too, do I? I must concede that the chocolate obsession redeemed this cafe a little because I don't normally like dark chocolate, but I liked this. The mixture is quite the blend of sweet and bitter. Rich.

Otherwise, the lemon meringue and lemon raspberry cupcake took its name quite literally because both Mag and I scrunched up our faces the moment we took a bite. It's too sour and lacking in the sweet tinge that definitely exists in successful meringues.

Macaroons are my absolute favourite and I was looking forward to trying the two flavours. Unfortunately, the "shell" broke and crumbled upon contact with the cake knife. The fillings were not fully filled, and as a result the distinct taste of the salted caramel did not come through. Quite a miss rather than a hit. You'll be better off buying the cheap but good macaroons from Bakerzin, really.

Oh well, consolation is that we took nice photos! Credits to Jon (who was really nice and efficient in serving us) and Nic!

Yup, I had to face this cheeky face for 2 hours. Hahaha #nightmare

Some mandatory bicycle shots because, well, it was this bike that brought mag and my hunt for this cake shop to an end.

Tried to take some artistic shots to show you guys how pretty the inside of this cafe is, so here are some candid shots of us playing with the props.

Also, Nic volunteered to be my photog for the day so you may check out his shots below. He says "got feel", please tell me if you can feel this "feel". Hahahaha

If you're around the area, I guess you can head down for some tea and maybe a slice of cake (one of those I recommended, for your own good).

Overall, I think the cakes are nice to look at, but my tastebuds don't feel the hype, so 6/10. Oh, my audacity.

xoxo,
G.
